Toxic Denim

For this project, I created an editorial collage for an article published by National Geographic. This was made for my Foundations for Communication Design class at UNT.

The article that I created this magazine spread for discusses the toxic process of dyeing denim and how it's harmful to both workers and the environment. The author also brings up potential solutions, so I also explored a more positive approach in the beginning of my process (shown below).
I found an extremely compelling image of a man's forearms dyed bright blue from working with denim dyes, which I felt really emphasized the article's message of danger. The surrounding molecule diagrams are the different dyes and chemicals used in the dyeing process, including indigo.
